Appearance vs. Reality †Comparative Essay Essay

It is tied in with Looking Good: A Comparison between The Role of Appearance versus Reality In Macbeth and Frankenstein. Macbeth is one of crafted by dramatist William Shakespeare and it is viewed as one of his most impressive catastrophes. It recounts to the narrative of a decent warrior, Macbeth, who turns terrible due to aspiration and eagerness. It is a great story of gnawing beyond what one can bite. A couple of hundreds of years after the fact, a creator named Mary Shelley composed a gothic novel, Frankenstein, about a youthful researcher named Victor Frankenstein who makes a being and deserts it. The animal attempts to be acknowledged by both society and his maker. In spite of the fact that these two writings are of various sorts and periods, with Shakespeare’s play demonstrating solid subjects of aspiration and debasement and Shelley’s tale indicating topics of equity, franticness and the brilliant, the two writers utilize the topic of appearance versus realit y. They utilize this to show how human judgment depends entirely on appearances, how an individual can change on account of this judgment and how appearance assumes a job in deciding one’s spot in the public eye. It is human instinct to pass judgment on others on their outward looks. Individuals rely for the most part upon their visual faculties as the most grounded purpose of judgment. For instance, in the play Macbeth, Macbeth and his significant other trick the ruler with their activities and words to cause him to feel welcome while they are really arranging his homicide. (Macbeth I. v). They realize that individuals judge on appearance and choose to utilize it for their potential benefit. They act how they need individuals to see them, as steadfast subjects of the lord rather than misleading, clever and driven individuals which was what they truly were. As said by Lady Macbeth, â€Å"to [deceive] the time, resemble the time.† (Macbeth I. v.70-71). As vision is the essential feeling of man, the premise of human judgment is the shape, shading or surface of the general outward appearance. This decides whether something is fortunate or unfortunate. In Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein’s creation had yellow skin, watery eyes and straight dark lips. He was not what was viewed as delightful (Shelley, 58). The animal looked revolting and awful, and appalling and abhorrent isn't viewed as acceptable so it was decided as terrible. In the long run, appearance finds reality and an individual could change or become what others think they are a result of what they look like. The judgment handed out by individuals can be hurtful to both the individual being judged and the ones doing the judging. It can prompt one structure up various emotions within them. In Macbeth’s case, it prompted carelessness. He began great; he was a valiant and faithful warrior for his nation (Macbeth I. ii.30-45). At that point he submitted a homicide to fulfill his desire to become ruler (II. ii) and he pulled off it in light of the fact that nobody could figure from the manner in which he acts the terrible goals he has or the wrongdoing he has submitted. He continues executing and still no can tell since everybody continues making a decision about dependent on what they see outwardly. Macbeth arrives at a point where he chooses to let â€Å"the very firstlings of [his] heart be the very firstlings of [his] hand† (IV. i.161-162). At this point, Macbeth has transformed into a dictator and this is destructive to both him and the individuals of Scotland. In like manner, the judgment doled out for Frankenstein’s creation had an impeding impact. He was at first sympathetic and astute until his naã ¯ve perspective on people was crushed by the low brutality he confronted (â€Å"Frankenstein-The Theme of Appearance.† 1). The animal was acceptable however was never allowed to such an extent as talk before he was dismissed on account of the manner in which he looked (Shelley, 108). In the long run, he becomes compromising and vindictive on account of the terrible treatment he needed to tolerate (Shelley 148). Wrong judgment can have an impact, as appeared in both Macbeth and the creature’s circumstance. The one contrast is that Macbeth was at that point aggressive yet deteriorated while in the creature’s case, he totally convoluted and went from great to awful. In the two cases, each indivi dual’s place in the public arena was influenced. Individuals are positioned into classifications in the public arena. It makes a social chain of importance where everybody knows their place and who they should connect with. There are approaches to decide this and appearance assumes a job. For instance, if there was no foreordained thought of how beneficial things should look and rather ethics, knowledge and empathy was accentuated more than one’s outward appearance, Frankenstein’s animal could never have endured confinement on account of his ugliness (â€Å"Frankenstein-The Theme of Appearance.† 1). His place in the public arena is at the extremely base since he has nobody else who is happy to be related with him and nobody else who resembles him. In Macbeth’s case, he was focusing on the most elevated position; Kingship. In his time, aâ king is viewed as nearest to God and hence the most noteworthy situation in social pecking order. Macbeth slaughters the lord to become ruler and in light of the fact that nobody made a decision about him as equipped for submitting such a demonstration, however rather made a decision about him on how he had all the earmarks of being a reliable subject of the lord, he achieved the most noteworthy situation in the public arena. The subject of things not continually being as they ought to be has been utilized since the commencement of writing. This is appeared by Shakespeare and Shelley who wrote in totally various settings and hundreds of years. They show how making a decision about dependent on appearances can affect the individual, how the visual sense is man’s most grounded sense so judgment is intuitively founded on appearances and how the manner in which one looks takes care of them in the public arena. The partiality of looking great importance being acceptable and looking awful significance being awful has been around for some time and will most likely be around for whatever length of time that people can see. Karl Marxs The Communist Manifesto Essay -- Communist Manifesto Essays

Karl Marx's The Communist Manifesto The Communist Manifesto composed by Karl Marx clarifies the historical backdrop of all social orders as the historical backdrop of class clashes, he guarantees that the force and bearing of all social orders is controlled by the methods of creation, as such when the method of creation no longer suits the relations of society there is an insurgency. He predicts that an insurgency is interfering with the working class and the bourgeoisie, and calls its coming inescapable. Marx contends that the bourgeoisies are not, at this point fit to control, nor is their standard manageable, as such the working class will oust them and end all class hostilities with the formation of an uncouth society. Be that as it may, Marx doesn't give enough credit to patriotism, nor does he attribute to the chance of bargain between the classes. Because of this he predicts a class war which never, and may never, occur. The principal area of the Communist Manifesto portrays the historical backdrop of all general public as the historical backdrop of class clashes. Guaranteeing, that each general public is basically partitioned into, the oppressors and the abused. Moreover, Marx includes, previously, social orders were sorted out in increasingly complex mixes and pecking orders, yet current society is being part into two ‘hostile camps’. There has consistently been a ceaseless clash between the various classes; the final product of these contentions is consistently, either the complete concealment of the abused classes, or an unrest, which prompts an update of society. He censures the reason for the detachment of present day society into just two gatherings, on the fall of feudalism. These new class oppositions are between the working class, and the bourgeoisie. Marx sees the ascent of the bourgeoisie in Europe as the consequence of two or three elements; right off the bat, he accepts that, the underlying components of the bourgeoisie, were created by the contracted burghers who advanced from the serfs of the medieval ages. Next, after the incredible colonization of the sixteenth and seventeenth hundreds of years the market extended, prompting an extraordinary requirement for expanded creation. This extraordinary interest couldn't be gotten the job done by the medieval organizations, as such they were supplanted with assembling. Be that as it may, the business sectors and the interest continued expanding and the assembling framework could no longer keep up, as such it likewise was supplanted, by Modern Industry. The Industrial Revolution of the late eighteenth century and th... ... the progressive gatherings. These sorts of bargains occurred, and diverse communist gatherings abandoned the thoughts of radical upset and rather sought after continuous improvement through associations and parliament. In this way the already consistent lessening in laborers state didn't proceed, rather the laborers began getting more rights, for instance general male testimonial. Likewise they battled for, and won, social and financial upgrades, for instance greater business dependability, higher wages and laws, for example, the Ten Hour Act of 1847 and the Factory Act of 1833. Such reorganizations, the expansion in the intensity of Unions and the capacity of the laborers to cast a ballot prompted economical trade offs between the classes, as such no class war occurred. Marx’s depiction of European culture as driven by financial matters and isolated by class lines is right. Anyway he neglects to see the extraordinary impact of patriotism and he doesn't engage bargain between the classes, in view of this he wrongly predicts the annihilation of the industrialist framework and the bourgeoisies by the low class. We can understand that the channels of communication plays an important an organization. Chapter 3 Research methodology According to Johnson p, research methodology is the process of gathering data related to research topic. It helps the researcher by showing the different ways to conduct the research and the systematic ways to solve the research problem (Johnson p, 2000) In the research methodology section, the researcher needs to follow certain steps, which helps the researcher to make the research, the ways to collect the data and the ways to analyze the data which is gathered. According to Saunders M, Lewis P and Thronhill A, we can classify the research methodology into 8 basic types based on the ways of collecting the data. Theoretical- in the theoretical type of research methodology the research is based on the experiment and some kind of hypothesis as to be used by the researcher to begin the research process Applied- in this type of methodology is not suitable for generalized cases and can be used for individual cases and it is empirical and suitable for real world problems. Analytical- in this method the researcher need to rely on the facts and available data to reach the solution to research problem. This research method aims to find out the reasons for the research problem. For example how and why it happened so? Descriptive as the name indicates the research methodology, this method use descriptive ways to find a solution to the research problem. E,[orocal- this methodology is based on the experimental approach of data collection and it increases the possibility that result of the research finding supports the hypothesis of the research. This empirical method also based on the observation way of collecting the data. Conceptual- in this method the researcher need to rely on the existing data and interpret the existing data or develop new theories, which help the researcher to get the solution to the research problem. Quantitative- in the quantitative method the data collected is based on the numerical data . the method depends of mathema tical calculations and the statistical reports. The results are in numerical number. Some of the statistical terms used in this type of research method are mean, median, etc. Qualitative- the results for the qualitative analysis prepared on the basis of facts of on the basis of the trend in the chosen sample size. It is not based on the numerical data and it depends on the quality of the chosen sample or colour of the chosen sample ( Saunders M, Lewis P and Thronhill A, 2007) In the given research problem we can choose any of the above defined research methodology. Let us assume we are going to use the quantitative analysis for this research problem. Data collection methods It is the term used to represent the way to collect data related to the research problem. There are two types of data type primary data and the secondary data. The way in which the data collects decides whether the data is primary or secondary. In the research problem we can use the primary data. There are many ways to collect the primary data. The different ways to collect the primary and secondary data are described in the following paragraphs. Ways to collect the primary data There are many different ways that a researcher can make use to gather the primary data. Primary data is the data which comes directly from the sample size. The nature and accuracy of the collected data depends on the method of data collection and the selection of the sample size and location of the research. The different methods to collect the primary data are observation, interviews and printed or mailed questionnaires. Observation method in this method the researcher observes a limited sample size and findings are made on the basis of the observation. It is suitable when the researcher has a very limited number of samples and has enough time to finish the research. Interviews- by this method, the researcher directly or indirectly asks a set of predefined questions to the interviewee and the gathered data is used for the analysis purpose. The researcher can either conduct direct or telephonic interview with the interviewee and it is necessary for the researcher to prepare a set of questions which is related to the research topic. This method is also suitable when the chosen sample size is small. Questionnaires this method of data collection suitable when the researcher need to collect a large number of data. The researcher needs to prepare a questionnaire and answers for the questions should be a one word or the researcher needs to provide a set of options from which a person can choose. Nowadays we can see the researchers use free websites or online tools (for example survey monkey website) to gather the data or the researcher may email the questionnaires to the participants email address. In the research problem we can use the questionnaire method to collect the data from the participants. Ways to collect the secondary data We can gather the secondary data by making use of the existing information or by referring the previous researches conducted by a trusted person or even we can make use of the reports of some trusted sources. For example sometimes it is necessary for the researcher want to know the profit earned by a company in a short period time and in this case we can say that the companys annual report is an example for the secondary data source. In the research we can choose the quantitative analysis as the research methodology and questionnaire as the way to gather the data from the sample size. Set the sample size and location for the data collection The researcher needs to find a sample size which should represent the entire population and should be capable of producing an unbiased result for the research problem. The researcher can not include the entire population in the sample and can randomly choose items from the large population. In the give n research problem we can choose the sample size as 50 people from the population. The sample should contain employees working for the branded organisations and fresh graduates who all are looking for job. In the questionnaire we can include questions related to measure the effectiveness of the retention techniques and the employer branding. In the questionnaire the researcher can include both the popular employers and unpopular employers. For instance the researcher can asks the participant about the organisations which would they likes to work with. In the research we can classify the sample size 50 into 25 employees from the people working in the Sainsbury and 25 from the local people of the selected area. The researcher can approach the above mentioned set of people from the population. It is necessary for the researcher to prepare a schedule for the data collection and can choose a particular location for the data collection. Set timetable for the data collection activities. It is necessary for the researcher to set a date and a time for the collection of data related to the search. By doing this the researcher can track the number of days taken for each activity in the research. Chapter 4 Data analysis and findings After the collection of the data, the researcher needs to evaluate the collected data. The researcher can categorise the data on the basis of age, work and sex and can prepare the information on the basis of that. For example in the current research if we apply the data analysis we may get results similar to that of the following. Out sample size is 50.25 males participated in the survey or 40 people love to work with the branded employers. In this stage the researcher can avoid the unwanted samples from the sample collection and remove the samples which seem to avoid the occurrence of an unbiased result. After the data analysis process, the researcher gets the real data required for the research. Methods to reveal the research findings Once the researcher filtered the collected data, it is necessary to display the findings with the help of some graphs or charts. The common tools used in this method are the scatter diagrams, bar charts and pie diagrams. Sometimes it is necessary for the researcher to use some statistical calculations like mean, median, correlations and graphical displays such as scatter diagrams or regression analysis graphs. As we have chosen the quantitative analysis method and questionnaire method we can make use of some diagrams to represent the findings of the research. For example we can use pie diagrams or bar charts to represent the number of respondents for a particular question. In the case of qualitative analysis, the researcher can use some tabular forms to compare the features of the sample. Chapter 5 Scope of the research In the given research, the researcher has limited the size of the sample to 50 people and the result of the research based on the responses from the chosen sample. The researcher needs to choose the sample to get an unbiased solution to the research problem. In the research, the researcher have chosen 25 employees from the Sainsbury supermarket and 25 people from the public and the data collected from these two groups using the questionnaires. Ethical issues In this section the researcher needs to give much importance to the privacy of the participants in the data collection methods. In the research, the research does not want to collect any personal information from the participants. If the researcher has the details of the participants, the researcher has no rights to use the data with out the consent from the respective person. According to Resnik B D ,the persons who all participated in the data collection method should be independent of the influence of any third parties and the researcher needs to give equal opportunity to all to participate in the data collection process (Resnik B D, 2009). Preparation of research schedule using the Gantt chart According to Barkley B T, the researcher can make use of the Gantt chart to identify the length of the whole research process. It also the researcher to break down the research in to different processes and shows the effective ways to finish the research in time. It shows how the researcher can carry out more than one task at a time (Barkley T, 2006). In the given research also if we apply the Gantt chart, we can break down the processes in to different parts and allocate a particular time schedule for them. it helps the researcher to conduct more than one process at the same time. Conclusion: The report helped me to identify the importance of channels of communication and it gives me insight of how communication play vital role and can be improved and I can make use of these learned things n my final dissertation.

Business Management and Entire Selection Process

â€Å"To Be Or Not To Be Promoted?† 2 Evaluate the entire selection process for the position. Judge whether mistakes were made and discuss what could have been done differently. When I start evaluating the entire selection process, I have to start with the assessment process. The first thing that catches my attention is the fact that three of the four interviewers are men. As a woman interviewing for a job, I would be a little intimated being questioned by three men and one female. I would feel more comfortable being interviewed by a panel that was made up of two men and two women. I also think that the interview panel should have been set up to objectively view the candidate’s best and worst qualities for the position. Also, during†¦show more content†¦I would also tell them to show what they know about the position and convince the panel that they are the best person in the job. One of the most important things is to be on time for your interview and always dress for success. Be prepared and showcase your confidence. Even though this is an in house interview, I would also encourage each one of the potential candidates to follow up after the interview. Once the offer was made, I would reassure each of them that they did a great job during the interview and not to get discouraged because they were not chosen. I would advise them to offer assistance to Joe as he transitions to his new role and offer him a helping hand. Biography of Thomas Adams, American Inventor

Thomas Adams (May 4, 1818–February 7, 1905) was an American inventor. In 1871, he patented a machine that could mass produce chewing gum from chicle. Adams later worked with businessman William Wrigley, Jr. to establish the American Chicle Company, which experienced great success in the chewing gum industry. Fast Facts: Thomas Adams Known For: Adams was an American inventor who founded the chewing gum industry.Born: May 4, 1818 in New York CityDied: February 7, 1905 in New York City Early Life Thomas Adams was born on May 4, 1818, in New York City. There is little recorded information about his early life; however, it is known that he dabbled in various trades—including glassmaking—before eventually becoming a photographer. Experiments With Chicle During the 1850s, Adams was living in New York and working as a secretary for Antonio de Santa Anna. The Mexican general was in exile, living with Adams in his Staten Island home. Adams noticed that Santa Anna liked to chew the gum of the Manilkara tree, which was known as chicle. Such natural products had been used as chewing gum for thousands of years by groups such as the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Aztecs. In North America, chewing gum had long been used by Native Americans, from whom British settlers eventually adopted the practice. Later, businessman and inventor John B. Curtis became the first person to sell gum commercially. His gum was made from sweetened paraffin wax. It was Santa Anna who suggested that the unsuccessful but inventive photographer Adams experiment with chicle from Mexico. Santa Anna felt that chicle could be used to make a synthetic rubber tire. Santa Anna had friends in Mexico who would be able to supply the product cheaply to Adams. Before making chewing gum, Thomas Adams first tried to turn chicle into synthetic rubber products. At the time, natural rubber was expensive; a synthetic alternative would have been extremely useful to many manufacturers and would have guaranteed its inventor great wealth. Adams attempted to make toys, masks, rain boots, and bicycle tires out of the chicle from Mexican sapodilla trees, but every experiment failed. Adams became disheartened by his failure to use chicle as a rubber substitute. He felt he had wasted about a years worth of work. One day, Adams noticed a girl buying White Mountain paraffin wax chewing gum for a penny at the corner drugstore. He recalled that chicle was used as chewing gum in Mexico and thought this would be a way to use his surplus chicle. According to a 1944 speech given by Adams grandson Horatio at a banquet for the American Chicle Company, Adams proposed to prepare an experimental batch, which the pharmacist at the drugstore agreed to sample. Adams came home from the meeting and told his son Thomas Jr. about his idea. His son, excited by the proposition, suggested that the two manufacture several boxes of chicle chewing gum and give the product a name and a label. Thomas Jr. was a salesman (he sold tailoring supplies and sometimes traveled as far west as the Mississippi River), and he offered to take the chewing gum on his next trip to see if he could sell it. Chewing Gum In 1869, Adams was inspired to turn his surplus stock into chewing gum by adding flavoring to the chicle. Shortly after, he opened the worlds first chewing gum factory. In February 1871, Adams New York Gum went on sale in drug stores for a penny a piece. The gumballs came in wrappers of different colors in a box with a picture of New Yorks City Hall on the cover. The venture was such a success that Adams was driven to design a machine that could mass-produce the gum, allowing him to fill larger orders. He received a patent for this device in 1871. According to The Encyclopedia of New York City, Adams sold his original gum  with the slogan Adams New York Gum No. 1 — Snapping and Stretching.  In 1888, a new Adams chewing gum called Tutti-Frutti became the first gum to be sold in a  vending machine. The machines were located in New York City subway stations and also sold other varieties of Adams gum.  Adams products proved to be very popular, much more so than the existing gum products on the market, and he quickly dominated his competitors. His company debuted Black Jack (a licorice-flavored gum) in 1884 and Chiclets (named after chicle) in 1899. Adams merged his company with other gum manufacturers from the United States and Canada in 1899 to form the American Chicle Company, of which he was the first chairman. Other companies that merged into it included W.J. White and Son, Beeman Chemical Company, Kisme Gum, and S.T. Briton. The rising popularity of chewing gum in the decades that followed led scientists to develop new synthetic versions; nevertheless, some old-fashioned chicle varieties are still manufactured and sold today. Death Adams eventually stepped down from his leadership position at the American Chicle Company, though he remained on the board of directors into his late 80s. He died on February 7, 1905, in New York. Legacy Adams was not the inventor of chewing gum. Nevertheless, his invention of a device for mass producing chewing gum, along with his efforts to promote it, gave birth to the chewing gum industry in the United States. One of his products—Chiclets, first introduced in 1900—is still sold around the world today. In 2018, chewing gum sales totaled about $4 billion in the United States. The American Chicle Company was purchased by a pharmaceutical company in 1962. In 1997, the company was renamed Adams in honor of its founder; it is currently owned by the confectionery conglomerate Cadbury, which is based in England. Discussion about building great teams

Question: Discuss about theBuilding Great Teams. Answer: Introduction Google has been working on ways that can improve employee productivity and make them more efficient. This led to the need for developing project Aristotle which was mainly focussed on understanding the dynamics that exist between teams that can foster or hinder success. This thus led to the hiring of Julia a research consultant to be able to advise the company on issues of group dynamics and utilising the power of team work and group work. Managers face the challenge of accomplishing tasks within the organization through creating solutions that address the problems (Lord Brown 2004, p. 9). This means that the manager has to overcome group dynamics and create a team that is able to meet the requirements and the objectives of the organization. Background Google has been having different team projects that require employees to work in groups. This means that the company has been faced with the challenge of group dynamics which has hindered the productivity of employees. Different teams have existed within the organizations and have been managed by team leaders or unit managers like Matt. However there has been a challenge since the groups do not have clear set norms that govern the groups and determine how the groups operate. This led to the design of project Aristotle that aimed at determining factors that can improve team productivity and efficiency. This was being done by an independent researcher whose aim is analysing the organizational dynamics and how teams have operated and the way they are managed. Positive Management Approaches From the case study, Google has based its management on working in teams and group work. This entails that tasks are not assigned to individuals but rather to teams with a team leader in charge of each team. The teams are formed based on specific tasks and later disbanded after the task. Employees within the organization are specialized with each employee concentrating on the area that they are good at. This is seen during group sessions where each member speaks specifically when the discussion touches the area of specialization. Negative Management Approaches One negative management approach within the organization is lack of clear set norms that govern teams within the organization. Teams are based on particular norms that govern the team and rules of engagement. Manoj . Shilpa (2013, p. 311) suggest that mixing formal and informal norms within teams helps create the best teams. Low motivation patterns within the organization have lowered the effectiveness and efficiency of employees. Donelson (2006, p. 15) argues that employee productivity can be increased through motivation and managing the work place properly. Motivated employees give their best to the organization increasing profitability and efficiency within the organization. Identification of Issues and Problems One of the major problems being faced by Google is the management of teams within the organization. Different teams exist but lack clear set norms that determine how employees need to relate in a team. Some teams have existed in a more formal way while others have overlapped both formal and informal characteristics that shape their interaction. Group norms form accepted standard behaviour within the group and limit the action of members in a group. There is a growing interest on group norms and their role in management (Dianna 2006, p. 12). The social norms approach suggests that group influences have a greater role in shaping the behaviour of an individual. Group dynamics theorists argue that dynamics and norms within a team help the team to accomplish tasks that are beyond the capability of an individual. Tuckmans five stage theories explain the stages that teams go through before they can be able to work independently. However the Asch effect threatens group effectiveness that makes the group to choose defective decisions. This arises when the group lacks clear set norms that determine how the group operates (Manoj . Shilpa 2013, p. 311). The organization lacks ways that make employees productive within the organization. This is due to a hierarchical structure that is full of bureaucracy. System theorists argue that groups are complex systems that have inputs, activities, outputs and outcomes. This means that the management has failed to integrate the different parts of the organization and teams that exist into a system that has a role component for each team and employee. Possible Solutions Developing clear roles that define groups forms the basis of improving the performance of groups. Clear norms within the group equalise participation of each member within the group. This is because group roles are determined by a combination personality and individual experience. This help to equalise the dominant and silent participants within the group (Schein 2011, p. 23). Fapohunda (2013, P. 5) argues that training in group dynamics and how to work as a team can be a factor that can help improve employee participation. This can be through team building programmes that enable employees to interact with each other outside the work environment. This helps to foster a culture team work that reduces chaos and enables employees to discuss how they can foster their work place, strategize for success and make better teams. Team building helps members to understand how to overturn group dynamics into advantage to achieve sustainable result. Intagliata, Ulrich Smallwood (2000, p. 13) argue that restructuring the organizational structure may help in increasing efficiency and decision making. Less structured or flat organizational structures increases communication lines and delegates responsibilities and authority. This is due increased involvement of employees in decision making and increases coordination of tasks. Proposed Solution People always assume to know each other in groups when they actually dont. Team building is an upcoming trend in management used to stimulate team performance and productivity. This is used to explore ways that can improve team performance. Due to the involvement of a wide variety of activities that help to improve team performance and self development, team building makes the employees united towards a common goal of efficiency and increased productivity (Bonday Bruce 2003, p. 17). This will help the organization set goals with employees and determine errors and gaps in management that hinder productivity. Moral Lessons There are several moral lessons that can be learned by the viewers from the movie â€Å"Helen of Troy†. Some instances of these moral lessons are: 1. People should be contented on what they have so that they will not plot evil plans just to get what other people have; 2. Violence is never the answer. We can solve conflicts to other people peacefully; 3. A person makes his own destiny; 4. We must face the consequences of our decisions bravely; 5. A mistake cannot be corrected by another mistake; and 6. True love always finds a way. VI. Reaction The film â€Å"Helen of Troy† shows the significant details before and inside the book Iliad. This film assists the readers to comprehend this book. Also, it portrays how the Trojan war began and how Troy was destroyed. The story of the film â€Å"Helen of Troy† is the same as the story in the book â€Å"The Iliad†, because Helen was abducted by Paris, the Achaeans demanded to get her back and prevail over Troy and make it fall. The film only shows the significant details in the book, and alters the flow of the story to make it more eautiful and appropriate for their theme. There are lot of differences between the book Iliad and the movie Helen of Troy after viewing the movie. For instance, Achilles disgusts him and didn’t participate in the war until Patroclos was killed by Hector but in the movie, Achilles is one of the faithful followers of Agamemnon. Als o in the film, Prince Hector didn’t seem very active in the battle but in the book, Hector is the one who leads the army of Troy. There are a lot of differences on the film and the book but still, the book â€Å"The Iliad† and the movie â€Å"Helen of Troy† both show how Troy has fallen because of one woman. The film emphasizes not on Achilles but the love between Alexandros and Helen that they don’t care what will happen in the future and the most significant to them is that they are together. Also, the movie focus on Helen’s life, on how she lost her friends, on how she became mature, how she married Menelaus who is the brother of Agamemnon, how she fell in love with Paris, and how she faced her destiny that in the end, she will lose Paris and ended up following Menelaus, according to what Cassandra foretell to her. This movie was intended to show that love can destroy a castle. Like in the movie, Cassandra tries to prevent the fall of Troy but still it happens because of Paris love Helen so much, he took her from the Achaeans. And because of this the fate of Troy has been fulfilled. This movie also intended to open the eyes of the viewers how tragic a war is. Both parties in the movie lost many soldiers, friends and families.

How to Create a Sample of Narrative Essay Introduction

How to Create a Sample of Narrative Essay IntroductionA sample of narrative essay introduction should be chosen with care and the writer must ensure that they come up with an introduction that will capture the attention of the reader, which will make the writer stand out. This is a matter of style as well as substance, which is what it means to be a good writer. Once you have decided that you want to write a sample of narrative essay introduction, then the process of choosing the sample should begin. The idea of this kind of essay is to capture the attention of the reader, making them want to read further. You must therefore avoid using the same thought process when writing the introduction because there will be an element of repetition that will happen when you use the same thought process in the same way throughout the piece. Use your own experiences when speaking about the topic and bring in your personal feelings and observations about the subject at hand. While this may not work, you can find examples that you can apply so you can create a unique experience for the reader. When you are dealing with an idea that you know well, you will be able to identify with your own experience, making the introduction more natural and powerful. This will allow you to deliver your thoughts and experiences in a way that will capture the reader's attention. Also, you must ensure that you do not get too detailed with your introduction, as this will lose the focus on the idea that you are trying to convey.Remember that you should include the sequence of events in the introduction. The idea of this is to bring to life the ideas that you are trying to convey to the reader. This will help them understand how you feel about the topic. It is important to express yourself with precision because if you use abbreviations and misspellings, the reader may not be able to follow what you are trying to say.Write the introduction in the style that you wish to use for the rest of your paper. For example, if you were writing a science paper, you would use different styles than if you were writing a humanities paper. Choose a style that suits your paper and you will find that the next step will come easy. Once you have determined your style, the next step will be the introduction.Always start with your own experience rather than one that someone else has given you. Instead of letting the experience of others affect you, why not make a piece of your own, using your own insights? The point of the introduction is to tell a story about the topic and to draw the reader in. If you start with your own experience, then the piece will read naturally and hold the interest of the reader.Do not use too many images in the introduction, as this will prevent the focus from being maintained. Again, take into account your own experience when it comes to the introduction and use what you know well. Just as in a journal entry, add an introduction that has one or two images, but do not go ov erboard. You may wish to include a picture that is quite dramatic, but you should also use a more subtle image.Include words that you are comfortable with and that relate to the topic. In general, use words that are related to the topic that you are covering in the body of the piece. Remember, this is not the place to use formal writing. In this area, you need to use a direct, conversational language to express yourself.

Symbolism in Lord of the Flies free essay sample

There were no adults to scold them or to tell them to cut their hair. Many boys broke rules they would not have gotten away with back home, such as, â€Å"In his other life Maurice had received chastisement for filling a younger eye with sand† (Golding 60). They had no rules or instructions to tell them what not to do. This caused chaos on the island. Darkness and the beastie are also symbolic. It symbolizes fear. On the island, many of the boys were scared, especially the younger ones. The beastie was a monster that many of the boys imagined, and when the beastie was brought up at a meeting, frightened many of the other boys. Also, when darkness came around, several of the older Chinnis 2 boys would become nervous of the beastie, even if they hadn’t believed in it before. The darkness worried the boys like, â€Å"A thin wail out of the darkness chilled them and set them grabbing for each other† (Golding 94). Another symbolic object are the huts that the boys made on the beach. They symbolize survival. The huts were not only used for shelter from the weather, but also for protection from their fear of the beastie. Also, the huts were a good place to sleep, especially after having a nightmare, such as, â€Å"†¦ Ralph and Simon picked him up unhandily and carried him to a shelter† (Golding 95). The boys felt that the huts were safe. Lord of the Flies has many different symbolic items used throughout the book. Canadian senate reform essays

Canadian senate reform essays The Canadian Senate is supposed to be a sober second thought on government legislation. But, in many cases, as far as I know, senators are not meeting the expectations of the Canadian people, or fulfilling the requirements of the job. The question is, should the senate be reformed? In my opinion, the Canadian Senate should be reformed because it is not elected, provinces are not equally represented, nor is it effective. Historically, the Governor-General was supposed to appoint senators but, in actuality, the elected Prime Minister appoints the members of our Canadian Senate. At Confederation, this system seemed like a good idea. It made sense to have the Prime Minister appoint good people that he knew would make responsible senators. People generally understood these appointments to be a great honour and responsibility, and therefore took the position very seriously. In the culture of the time, it was an honour to serve your country this way. Unfortunately, as the years went on, this system has been subjected to abuse. An example of this, is the expulsion of Senator Andrew Thompson in 1998. The 73-year old senator was said to represent almost every negative stereotype that ever existed about the Senate. He was aging and apparently ill. He had shown up for work only 12 times since 1990. He collected an $85 000-a-year compensation package, and spent most of his time at a lavish villa in Mex ico. In my view, this shows a senator who, himself, didnt consider the work he was doing and the interests of the region he was representing, important. This is only one case; there have been about 17 other senators who have been held up for criticism for poor attendance. Each had missed more than half the years sittings. This abuse of the system is one of the reasons why I believe the senate should be elected by the people. Senators dont have to be elected or face periodic elections, s...

Kunming terrorist attack Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Kunming terrorist attack - Assignment Example On Sunday 2nd March 2014, police rounded up members of the Uighur population in the city for questioning, a move that was not taken well by the members of the Uighur community as they claim there is no way they could have identified the individuals since they were in black. Most of the attacks of this nature usually happen in Xinjiang where there there are common clashes between members of Uighur community and the police, therefore this was a special case since it took place more than 1, 500 kilometres away from the region. The UN security council condemned the attack and said there was no justification for any acts of terrorism and those responsible for the act should be brought to justice. The attack comes near the opening of the annual legislature where the government would delivers its report on its one year performance, therefore the incident was likely to dent the report. In another report, United States has finally called the attack a terrorist attack after accusations from the Chinese government on the failure to call the attack ‘ an act of terrorism’ which was carried out by eight attackers and left more than 130 people injured. The united states embassy in China had initially referred to the attack as ‘horrific, senseless act of violence’ which was seen as not strong enough by Chinese authorities. Xinjiang, which is the region largely inhabited by Uighur people who are Muslim minority, has been increasingly experiencing unrest due to immigration by the Han majority to the region, for instance, in 2009, ethnic violence in the region left more than 200 people dead. For a long time, the government has blamed Uighur activists for the violence while on the other hand the Uighur activists blame the government’s excessive control for the violence in the
